Licensed as nursing homes by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Green Houses provide person centered care in a home-like setting, which is a different environment from the traditional nursing home model.
Complete with a central dining area, fireplace, driveways, barbecue grills, and green lawns, Green Houses are free-standing, approximately 7000-square feet, ranch-style homes that house no more than 10 people who require 24-hour nursing care.
Located on Green House Lane the four Green Houses at LVBH are exclusively for nursing residents. Residents sleep in their private bedroom, have a private bath, and decorate their own rooms. Porches and patios give residents abundant access to the outdoors and plants.
Green Houses feature ceiling-track lifts, adaptive devices, and wireless communications technologies, as well as life-enhancing features such as whirlpool rooms and attached garages for residents to board and disembark from vehicles within sheltered areas.
The Green House Project (www.thegreenhouseproject.com)is the brainchild of Dr. William Thomas, a geriatric physician and founder of The Eden Alternative, a global non-profit organization committed to improving the care received by people who live in institutions everywhere.
